A twentieth-century mansion of fifteen to twenty-five rooms, with a garden and a pool, a short drive from the old city.
Jaipur has a good supply of converted family mansions on the roads outside the walled city. They are quieter than anything inside the walls, have gardens and usually a pool, and are ten to fifteen minutes from the main sights by car.
The buildings are early twentieth century rather than medieval, which in practice means high ceilings, generous rooms and plumbing that has been dealt with properly at least once. Service is usually family-run and noticeably personal.

Jaipur is the opposite of Udaipur in shape: the sights are large, impressive and spread out, and you will spend real time in a car between them. That is worth knowing before you plan a one-night stop, because a one-night stop here sees about a third of what people expect.
Three nights is the comfortable number. Two works if you accept an early start on both mornings. The fort above the city needs a half day on its own, and the observatory and the palace in the centre want another.
