What is covered here
A cookie is a small file a site writes into your browser so the browser can be recognized on a later visit. Local storage and tracking pixels perform much the same job, and this document treats all three together.
Essential cookies
Without these the site stops working. They hold the cookie choice you made, stop a part-completed form from losing its entries, and help block abusive traffic. For that reason the preferences panel offers no switch for them.
Analytics cookies
Allowed, these report which pages are read and where a visit ends, which is how the desk learns what needs fixing. No analytics tool loads before consent is given, and each tool in use is to be named on this page.
Advertising cookies
Allowed, these show whether an advertisement led to a request and may place our advertisements on other sites. Under several state privacy laws, California's included, that can amount to "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. It happens only while advertising cookies are on, and any tool involved is to be named here. See also the Third-Party Services Disclosure.
The choice is yours to make and to change
Optional cookies begin switched off. Change the setting whenever you like on the Cookie Preferences page, or clear cookies from the browser itself. Refusing optional cookies never stands in the way of sending the desk a request.
How long a cookie lasts
A session cookie is discarded when the browser closes; a persistent one survives until a set expiry date. The browser's own site settings list every cookie stored from this site and the date each one runs out.
