5 nights · 6 days
Kerala backwaters in five nights
Two nights on the bank, one on a private houseboat, two more on the bank, and very little else arranged.

This is a deliberately empty itinerary. The backwaters reward sitting still, and a plan that moves you every day misses the point of being here.
One night on the houseboat rather than two is a considered choice: boats must moor at sunset, so the second day afloat is short, and the novelty does not survive it. The land nights do the heavy lifting.
Day by day
Indicative from ₹38,500-
Arrive and settle
Met at Cochin airport and driven to the villa, about ninety minutes. Nothing arranged after that.
-
The channels by country boat
A couple of hours in a small boat in the morning, into channels a houseboat cannot enter. The afternoon is free.
-
On to the houseboat
Board around midday. The afternoon is spent cruising; the boat moors before sunset and the cook makes dinner on board.
-
Back to the bank
A short run back in the morning and disembark around nine. The rest of the day is open.
-
Nothing arranged
A free day. Most people spend it on the verandah, which is the correct answer.
-
Departure
Transfer to Cochin airport, allowing two hours for the road.
