7 nights · 8 days
Jaipur and Udaipur over seven nights
Three nights in Jaipur for the forts, four in Udaipur for the lanes and the lake, and the road between them.

These two cities are the usual pairing in Rajasthan and they work because they are unalike. Jaipur is big, spread out and impressive and asks for early starts; Udaipur is compact, walkable and better suited to drifting.
The road between them takes six to seven hours with a stop, and we treat it as a day rather than pretending it fits around sightseeing. Doing Jaipur first means the hard work happens while you still have the appetite for it.
Day by day
Indicative from ₹47,500-
Arrive in Jaipur
Met at the airport and driven to the hotel. Nothing arranged for the rest of the day.
-
Amber Fort, early
At the fort for opening time, before the sun and the crowds. The afternoon is free; the stepwell nearby is worth the short detour.
-
The walled city
The City Palace and the observatory on foot, then the bazaars. Traffic makes this a walking day rather than a driving one.
-
Jaipur to Udaipur
A long road day, six to seven hours with a stop. Arrive in the late afternoon and go no further than the roof terrace.
-
The City Palace and the lanes
An early start at the palace complex, then the lanes between it and the lake for the rest of the day.
-
On the water
A boat on Lake Pichola in the morning. The afternoon is open — the temple and the bazaar, or nothing at all.
-
Out to Ranakpur
A full day by car to the marble temple at Ranakpur, about two and a half hours each way. Back in Udaipur for the evening.
-
Departure
Transfer to Udaipur airport. Allow 45 minutes for the 22 km.
